Leonardo DiCaprio Just Pledged $3 Million Toward Australian Wildfire Relief

It might be hard to look past—hell, let alone even think—of anything besides what’s going on in our country right now, with our president stirring up deadly trouble overseas in Iran. But across the world, Australia has been facing an equally heartbreaking and terrifying catastrophe for months. Wildfires are raging across the country, with over 200 fires burning, and at least 24 people, and more than 480 million animals dead.

Thankfully, awareness of the disaster is finally reaching a point where we’re seeing legitimate resources going to relief efforts—like Rowing Blazers donating proceeds from its Australia rugby shirts to WIRES, Australia's largest wildlife rescue organization. But with arguably even more pull are the celebrities of the world, who have started donating significant amounts of money to relief efforts in Australia.

The donations started pouring in after Russell Crowe used his Golden Globes win to deliver a message about the tragedy. Jennifer Aniston read his statement at the awards show:

Here’s what other celebrities have been doing to aid with Australian wildfire relief. And if you'd like to give money to help the efforts in Australia the Australian Red Cross and the wildlife rescue organization WIRES are taking pledges.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge: Auctioning off her designer suit from the Golden Globes.

Chris Hemsworth: The Australian native pledged $1 million.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban: The couple, whose Australian home is in danger due to the fires, donated $500,000 to Rural Fire Services.

Metallica: Gave $500,000, which will benefit NSW Rural Fire Service and Victoria’s Country Fire Authority (CFA).

Elton John: Announced during his show on Tuesday that he’d pledge $1 million to Australia.

P!nk: Donated $500,000 to Australian fire services.

Kylie Jenner: Gave $1 million following criticism of a social media post showing herself wearing Vuitton mink fur slippers. She announced her pledge in an Instagram Story.

Leonardo DiCaprio: The actor's environmental organization, Earth Alliance, announced on Thursday that it would pledge $3 million to its own Australia Wildfire Fund.

Ellen DeGeneres: Announced on Twitter that she had already donated to the NSW Rural Fire Service, Australian Red Cross, and WIRES.

Shawn Mendes: In an Instagram post, Mendes promised that The Shawn Mendes Foundation will donate to the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund, the NSW Rural Fire Service, and the South Australian Country Fire Service.

Australian NBA Players: Nine NBA players, including Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons, partnered with the NBA and its players association to donate $750,00 toward wildfire relief.

Again, to give money to help the efforts in Australia the Australian Red Cross and the wildlife rescue organization WIRES are taking pledges.
